Ole Miss Chapter Does Alzheimer’s Walk & NSSLHA Loves Project!

April 17, 2010

The NSSLHA chapter at the University of Mississippi has been very hard at work this academic year with service projects and other events to raise awareness to certain disorders. Two events that our chapter has been involved in this year were the Alzheimer’s Memory Walk and our NSSLHA loves project that raised money to donate to an organization of our NSSLHA executive council’s choosing.

The Alzheimer’s Memory Walk that was held on October 31, 2009. It was a city wide walk that took place on the campusof Ole Miss. Several local organizations participated in the walk as well as raised money to donate. Our chapter set a goal of $100, and several members sold five dollar Belk discount coupons, which were sold to the patrons for a discount on their Belk purchases. We also accepted donations in addition to selling the discount coupons. We were pleased to have raised a total of $175 which exceeded our projected goal. This walk was a great way for many of our members to support a great cause that deals with an interest of our study.

In addition to supporting a local cause, our chapter has raised money throughout the year to meet our desired goal of $500 for the NSSLHA loves organization that was chosen. Our recipient was Four Paws for Ability which is anorganization that trains dogs to assist a person with a specific disorder. We held two bake sale fundraisers and asked for donations to accomplish our monetary gift.

This year, our chapter has become more involved with our community by supporting the Alzheimer’s Memory Walk and raising money to donate to Four Paws for Ability. These events were a great way for our chapter to come together and represent NSSLHA in our community!
